About Daniel Quinlan

I'm a videographer, now based in Paris after living in Southeast Asia for a decade shooting news, features, and documentary.

My passion for visual storytelling has allowed me to work on a diverse range of issues from protest movements and corruption to the environment with some of the world's most respected media and non-governmental organizations.

I first moved to Asia to work for a human rights organization in Nepal before following my love to a small town on the Thai-Burma border. Without a job, I started working on my photography before helping edit a small news site, before getting my start in video as an assistant to a documentary filmmaker in 2011.

After making videos for NGOs, I landed a job as a videographer for the Phnom Penh Post and moved to Cambodia in 2013. For the next two and a half years, I covered elections, protest movements, crackdowns, murder, and everything fit for a daily news organization.

Since then, I’ve worked in just about every media role, collaborating with some incredible people and organizations, from reporting on-air to being a website editor, including being Southeast Asia correspondent for France 24.

Freelancing allowed me to continue with news, while crafting advocacy narratives for international organisations, from labour and human rights to a wide array of development issues.

For the 2 years before moving to Paris I was the videographer and editor for the Bangkok based foreign correspondent Martin Lowe.

All the while, I honed my skills, shooting video, recording sound, and editing it all together, often on tight deadlines under often challenging circumstances interacting with a wide array of different people and cultures.
